Diving Masterclass: Precision, Power, and Performance

🏊‍♂️ Panthers • Swimming

The swimming programme at The British School continues to prioritise strong fundamentals and advanced technique. Swimmers from U9, U11 and U14 took part in a Master Diving skills session designed to enhance race starts, streamlining and underwater efficiency.

Why this Masterclass?
  • Focused technical coaching to improve stroke efficiency and starts/turns.
  • Confidence-building drills tailored to U9, U11 and U14 swimmers.
  • Preparation for upcoming fixtures and competitions.

Focus Areas of the Session

  • Stance — Correct block/side-of-block positioning for balance and readiness.
  • Take-off Position — Explosive power, alignment and forward momentum.
  • Streamline — Arms extended, head down, tight body line for maximum glide.
  • Start — Reaction time, push-off and entry angle for minimal splash.
  • Turns — Faster, tighter rotations and strong push-offs from the wall.
  • Touches — Legal, accurate finishes by stroke.
  • Finishes — Speed and power maintained right to the wall.

U9 Group

The youngest swimmers built confidence on the starting blocks/side of the block, maintained body tension during the streamline and practised safe, clean entries. Simple drills reinforced correct body position. (Jihaan, Viraaj, Leia, Kiko, Adya, Aiko, Aleena, Zian and Agastya worked well during the session.)

U11 Group

This group refined block stance, improved underwater dolphin kicks and worked on quicker, more efficient turns. Coaches emphasised combining sharp reaction time with disciplined streamline control to gain an early race advantage.

U14 Group

The senior swimmers trained at higher intensity, focusing on explosive take-offs, advanced turn technique and race-finish quality. Specific feedback was provided on touches to ensure stroke legality in competition.

Overall Outcomes

  • Noticeable gains in body alignment and streamline after the dive.
  • Stronger, faster starts with reduced drag.
  • Greater awareness of the influence of turns and finishes on race outcomes.
