Table Tennis Selection Criteria
Panthers Table Tennis Trials 2026–27 are designed to provide a clear, fair and measurable selection process. Students will be assessed through age-appropriate table tennis tasks that focus on serve, return, rally control, footwork, placement, decision-making and match readiness.
Overview
The Panthers Table Tennis selection process is built around measurable table tennis actions, not general opinion. Students will complete the same number of assessed opportunities in each station. The level of difficulty increases progressively from U9 to U19.
Important — Must Read
- Each student will complete five assessed table tennis stations.
- Each station has 10 opportunities, and each opportunity is scored out of 2 points.
- The final trial score is calculated out of 100 points.
- A high score supports selection but does not automatically guarantee a place.
- Final selection may also consider squad size, doubles balance, attitude, coachability and readiness for competitive fixtures.

Simple Scoring System
Each opportunity is scored out of 2 points. This keeps the process simple, consistent and easy for parents and students to understand.
| Score | Meaning | Example Evidence |
|---|---|---|
| 2 points | Skill performed correctly with control and a successful outcome. | Serve lands in target zone, return lands safely, rally continues with control, or correct tactical decision is made. |
| 1 point | Skill attempted with partial success, but control, timing, accuracy or decision-making needs improvement. | Ball lands on table but misses target zone, rally contact is made but lacks consistency, or decision is partly suitable. |
| 0 points | Unsuccessful attempt, poor control, unsafe action or incorrect decision. | Missed ball, ball into net, ball off table, incorrect serve, no movement, or poor match decision. |
The total Table Tennis trial score is calculated out of 100 points.
